The 21-unit minor centers dance and movement as an embodied understanding of the human experience, connecting students to communities, social ideas, a complex global world, and human subjectivity while preparing them to be mindful citizens and dance artists. Required coursework opens with DANCE 332 Dance in History and Culture plus DANCE 101 (native students) or DANCE 301 (transfer students), then 6 lower-division elective units drawn from courses such as Conditioning, Flexibility, and Somatics for Dancers, Jazz, Modern/Contemporary, and Hip Hop dance practice, Tap, and Ballet. The 9-unit upper-division elective block includes Immersion into Jazz/Modern-Contemporary/Hip Hop Dance, Themes in Dance Studies, Preparation for Careers in Dance, Research Methods in Dance Studies Making and Practice, Community Projects in Dance, and Advanced Practice coursework, letting students pair the minor with any major in the Department of Dance, Music and Theatre.
