Post-Enrollment Audition Requirements

These requirements are from the Spring 2027 entry cycle. Fall 2027 requirements are typically posted between August and October and usually change only slightly — confirm on the official source before submitting.

No audition is required for the initial application. This is an internal program gate students complete after enrolling at the university.Gateway source

Songs

Repertoire

Perform a song or aria from the Classical art music tradition

Golden Age American Musical Theatre (1930s-1950s) or Great American Song Book repertoire is also acceptable

For live auditions, provide printed sheet music to Professor Omari Tau

Scales & Technique

Sing a one-octave major scale a cappella, starting on any pitch and using any syllable

Vocal professor may explore additional scales during the audition

Eligibility

Must be a declared Music major

Must be enrolled in a Music Theory and Musicianship course at CRC, or have completed the cycle

Must be enrolled in a CRC large performing ensemble

Apply via OpenCCC (CCCApply), during published application windows

Admission Pathway

Music, General AA includes four semesters of Applied Music (MUIVI 410)

Declared music majors audition into MUIVI 410 after enrollment; this is not a college-admission audition

Work with a CRC counselor to choose ensemble and performance-area coursework for your transfer or career goal

Transfer Pathway

This is a transfer pathway degree built to transfer into a four-year program. Confirm which universities it articulates to, and which credits carry over, before you enroll.

What's The Process

Audition Expectations

Initial Applied Music auditions are video submissions; no in-person initial audition is held

Upload the audition video to YouTube with privacy set to public or unlisted

Submit the YouTube link through CRC's Audition Registration form

Registration and video links are due the Friday before classes begin

Fall 2026 deadline: August 21, 2026

Spring 2027 deadline: January 15, 2027

Post-Enrollment

Applied Music (MUIVI 410) is a course-entry audition for declared music majors, not a general college-admission audition

Auditions take place at the beginning of each semester

Students who are not selected are encouraged to reapply the following semester and have other program options

Dr. Precious Bell Craft Memorial Scholarship — $500, priority for Gospel Choir members, secondary for vocal students

General Music Scholarships

John W. Landes Music Scholarship — $1,000 (two awards) for declared music majors

Mike Daly Music Scholarship — $500 for students in music classes

Nina Simone Music in Action Scholarship — $500, requires video performance submission

Music Teachers Association of California Scholarship — $250 for music students with 3.0+ GPA

Stanley L. Blackshire Music and Art Scholarship — $500 for music or art majors
