Audition Requirements

These requirements are from the Fall 2026 entry cycle. Fall 2027 requirements are typically posted between August and October and usually change only slightly — confirm on the official source before submitting.

Repertoire List

•Principal instrument or voice repertoire: follow the published requirements for the selected performing area

•Voice repertoire: three memorized selections from contrasting style periods with piano accompaniment; art songs or arias are preferred for at least two selections

•Piano repertoire: two or three contrasting works from the standard repertoire, memorized

•String repertoire: two contrasting works from contrasting style periods

•Woodwind and brass repertoire: two works, one lyrical and one technical, from contrasting style periods

•Percussion repertoire: perform in two areas selected from snare drum, timpani, and marimba

Accompaniment

•Non-keyboard instrumentalists should audition with an accompanist; recorded accompaniment is not permitted

Letter of Recommendation (Required)

•Music teacher recommendation letter submitted to the Office of Admissions

Application Logistics

•Submit the Music Audition Application Form in addition to the university application

•Letter of recommendation from your music teacher required

Teacher Education Program (Post-Enrollment)

•Music Education majors apply separately to the Teacher Education Program after enrolling (typically after the sophomore performance jury)

•Admission requires a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.75 and a successful professional skills and dispositions review with music education faculty — this is a post-enrollment progression gate, not an admission requirement

•Admitted students take a music theory and music history placement/diagnostic exam before matriculation — for course placement only, not admission

Audition Process

•Performance audition on your principal instrument or voice is required for admission to the Petrie School of Music

•All auditioning students are also considered for music talent scholarships

•Apply for admission to Converse University

•Submit the Music Audition Application Form

•Attend a scheduled audition day on campus

Audition Expectations

•If unable to audition in person, submit a recorded audition

•Upload an unlisted video to YouTube

•Email the video link to Macey Dotson (macey.dotson@converse.edu)
