Conditional Prescreen Requirements

Applicants who have earned Concordia's Conductor's or Faculty's Choice Award are exempt from the prescreen recording and go straight to a live audition; all other applicants submit a video or audio recording with the music application.

Resume (Required)

Include performance experience, ensembles, training, and musical accomplishments

Video or Audio Recording (Required Unless Exempt)

Video is preferred; audio is accepted

A recording made with a cell phone is acceptable

Conductor's/Faculty's Choice Award recipients advance without a recording

Repertoire List

Brass, woodwind, or string applicants: one solo, etude, or similar work demonstrating performance ability

Percussion applicants: two solos showing melodic and non-melodic percussion

Repertoire List

Brass: two contrasting movements or selections, one lyrical and one technical

Woodwind: two contrasting unaccompanied works from standard repertoire

Two selections demonstrating any two of snare drum, timpani, or mallet-keyboard instruments

Violin/viola: two contrasting solo works; cello/bass: two contrasting solo works

Organ: a Bach work, a Romantic or modern work, and one hymn

Guitar or harp: two contrasting solo movements or selections

Scales & Technique

Woodwind applicants also perform major scales and a full-range chromatic scale

String applicants prepare major and melodic-minor scales plus arpeggios at the octave ranges specified for their instrument

Application Logistics

Apply and be accepted to Concordia before scholarship consideration

Submit one Music Scholarship Application; applicants may include separate recordings for up to three performance areas

University application is available through Common App or Concordia's application

Dual-Purpose Audition

No separate degree-audition application is needed when the scholarship audition also serves as the BM Performance entrance audition

Transfer Pathway

Instrumental BM transfer applicants complete the performance audition and interview for professional music-degree admission, then consult the music department for aural-skills, theory, and piano placement while prior coursework is evaluated.

What's The Process

Prescreen

Submit the area-specific scholarship recording through the Music Scholarship Application

Applicants with a qualifying Conductor's/Faculty's Choice Award advance without a recording

Live Audition

Finalists complete a live audition and interview in Moorhead or the Twin Cities

Prepare the BM-level requirements for the principal instrument if the scholarship audition will also serve as the BM Performance entrance audition
