Audition Requirements

Repertoire List

Prepare two or three contrasting pieces on your principal instrument, or two contrasting pieces if your principal area is voice.

Prepare scales, arpeggios, and sight-reading if requested.

Vocalists may use the staff accompanist; instrumentalists do not need an accompanist.

Recommendation Letters (Scholarship Applicants)

Two recommendation letters from professional musicians who know your musical abilities; email them to Dr. Charisse Baldoria.

Application Logistics

Complete the university application before scheduling a music audition.

Eligibility

Admission is by modified rolling admission; enrollment is limited by studio and degree.

Admission Pathway

Piano placement, music theory, and aural skills evaluations identify course placement; they do not determine admission.

What's The Process

Audition Process

Complete the Commonwealth University application first; after submission, register for a Bloomsburg music audition.

The audition evaluates the principal instrument or voice and includes piano placement, music theory, and aural skills components; these diagnostics are used for course placement, not admission.

Request a personal interview with the department chair or designee before the audition if desired.

Audition Expectations

Recorded or Zoom auditions are available when distance prevents a live audition.

Recorded auditions must be unedited and include at least two contrasting works plus major and minor scales; sight-reading, theory, and aural skills are completed via Zoom.

Decisions

November/December auditions: notification by January 31.

January through March auditions: notification by March 31.

Auditions after March 31: notification within two weeks.

Talent scholarships are awarded through university foundation funds based on the music audition

Scholarship applicants must submit two recommendation letters from professional musicians who know their musical abilities (private teacher or ensemble director)

Students who minor in music or participate in ensembles may also audition for scholarship consideration
