Repertoire
•Requirements vary by instrument family; prepare repertoire appropriate to your instrument
•Strings (violin/viola/cello/bass): two contrasting movements from solo Bach plus one concerto movement (include the cadenza if performing a first movement)
•Brass and woodwinds: one or two solos, concerto movements, or characteristic etudes demonstrating lyrical and technical skills
•Guitar: three pieces in contrasting styles plus one arpeggio study (Carulli, Carcassi, Giuliani, etc.)
•Harp: two works or movements in contrasting styles, preferably from memory, plus one Pozzoli etude and the Tchaikovsky Waltz of the Flowers cadenza
•Percussion: one concert snare solo, one two-mallet solo, one timpani solo, and an optional four-mallet solo
Scales & Technique
•Strings: three-octave major and minor scales with arpeggios (violin/viola also double stops, thirds, and octaves) plus one etude or caprice
•Brass: 12 major scales with arpeggios and a full-range chromatic scale
•Woodwinds: all major scales and arpeggios and a full-range chromatic scale
•Bass: three-octave scales plus two etudes (Bille, Rabbath, or Simandl)
•Guitar: two-octave scales in four major and harmonic and melodic minor keys
Sight-Reading
•Sight-reading is examined for brass, woodwinds, and most instruments
Accompaniment
•An accompanist is provided for a fee, or you may bring your own pianist
