Audition Requirements
Songs
TWO 16-BAR SELECTIONS FROM MUSICAL THEATRE REPERTOIRE
•One selection must be from the Golden Age or earlier (written before 1968)
•Songs must be contrasting in style — one up-tempo and one ballad recommended
•Both songs must be memorized
•Accompanist provided — may NOT sing a cappella, with own accompanist, or with recorded accompaniment
Monologues
ONE MONOLOGUE FROM A PLAY, 1.5 min max
•Must be from a published play — not from a movie or book of monologues
•Must be memorized
Dance
DANCE CALL
•On-campus auditionees participate in a group dance class
•Dance call is for placement purposes only — not a primary factor in acceptance decisions

APPLICATION PROCESS
•Complete departmental audition application online within one week of audition date
•Apply separately to CMU through Common App or school website
PREPARATION
•Students should have training in music sight-reading, dance, vocal/choral, and dramatic performance
•Piano proficiency assessed upon admission — additional piano courses may be required
What's The Process
AUDITION FORMAT
•Three-part audition: singing, acting, and dancing
•Three on-campus audition dates plus video audition option
AUDITION DAY SCHEDULE
•9:20am: Registration and meet & greet with faculty
•10am: Tour of Moss Performing Arts Center and Asteria Theatre
•11am: Attend theatre class (parents: Q&A with department head)
•2-3pm: Dance call
•3-5pm: Individual auditions (singing and monologue)
VIDEO SUBMISSIONS
•First round: March 1 deadline
•Alternate slots: May 1 deadline
