Program Structure

Core jazz courses: Harmonic Practice in the Jazz Tradition, Innovators in Jazz, Arranging for Jazz Ensemble

Electives include Jazz Performance Techniques, Improvisation, Jazz Composition and Analysis

Four semesters of Jazz Ensemble participation required

Senior Project (Performance or Composition) or Jazz Composition and Analysis required

Transfer Pathway

Transfer students first enter CSI and complete the BA Music gateway coursework. They may then audition in their second year for the Jazz Studies and Performance concentration, with BS auditions generally held in spring.

What's The Process

Gateway Audition

All music students begin in the BA Music program

During the 2nd year as a declared music major, students may audition for the BS degree

Auditions held in the Spring semester of the 2nd year, usually in March

Must have 2.7 GPA in music courses and 2.5 overall GPA to apply

Audition Day

Perform two contrasting selections demonstrating technique and musicianship

Accompanist provided by the department
