Audition Requirements

Repertoire List

•A standard concerto or solo piece

•Two etudes in contrasting styles (for example, lyrical and technical), or one etude and an additional solo

•At least three standard orchestral excerpts in contrasting styles

•Scales and arpeggios may be asked

•Accompaniment note: an accompanist is not required

•Submit university application via Common App or CSU portal (select Pre-Music as intended major)

•Submit separate School of Music Application form to register for an Audition Day

•If considering more than one music major, only one application is needed

Placement Exam

•Admitted students take a music theory and musicianship placement exam on the audition day — for course placement only, not admission

Transfer Pathway

The LCCC Arts and Sciences guide maps MUSC 155 to CSU MUS 117 for Music tracks. Transfer applicants in this BM Performance area must still complete the School of Music audition.

What's The Process

Audition Process

•A successful performance audition is required for admission to music major status

•Auditions take place on campus at scheduled Audition Days

•A music theory and musicianship placement exam is administered on audition day

•Available when travel to Cleveland presents a hardship

•Upload audition to YouTube or Vimeo and email links to music@csuohio.edu

Timeline

•Submit the School of Music Application at least 2 weeks before your desired audition date

•Fall 2027-Spring 2028 Audition Days are TBA

•Competitive talent-based scholarships for qualified incoming freshmen, transfer, and current students

•Awarded based on audition performance
