•CSU Music Education Recommendation Form, completed by a school music teacher (preferred, not required)

Essay / Writing Sample

•A writing sample representing your best work, such as a paper from a high school course (preferred, not required)

Application Process

•Submit university application via Common App or CSU portal (select Pre-Music as intended major)

•Submit separate School of Music Application form to register for an Audition Day

Admission Criteria

•Composite ACT score of 20 or higher, OR

•Writing proficiency (B- or higher in a college-level English course, or English/Reading ACT sub-score of 18+), and

•Mathematics proficiency (B- or higher in a college-level math course, or math ACT sub-score of 18+)

Placement Exam

•Admitted students take a music theory and musicianship placement exam on the audition day — for course placement only, not admission

Transfer Pathway

The LCCC Arts and Sciences guide maps MUSC 155 to CSU MUS 117 for Music tracks. BM Music Education transfer applicants must still complete the School of Music audition and Music Education interview.

What's The Process

Admission Process

•Music Education applicants complete a performance audition on their principal instrument or voice plus an entrance interview at a scheduled Audition Day

•Voice principals: two memorized selections in contrasting styles (no language requirement); pop songs and choral parts are not accepted

•Instrumental principals: follow the standard BA/BM (non-Performance) area requirements for the instrument

•A music theory and musicianship placement exam is administered on audition day

Entrance Interview

•Discuss a suggested music-education journal article (provided by request) during the interview

•Optional preparation: sing a folk song of your choosing (evaluated on preparation, not singing quality)

Video Option

•Applicants for whom travel presents a hardship may submit a one-take, unedited video with the entire applicant in frame

Timeline

•Submit the School of Music Application at least 2 weeks before your desired audition date

•Audition and interview in January, February, or March for entrance and scholarship consideration
