•Bullet: The catalog lists Introduction to Church Music and Church Music Methods among the concentration’s junior-level requirements.
•Bullet: CAU’s learning outcomes emphasize knowledge of repertoire and performance practices found in mainstream African American churches.
Performance & Productions
•Bullet: Church Music students audition on a chosen instrument or as a vocalist and can participate in CAU’s large and small ensembles.
•Bullet: Department ensembles include the Philharmonic Society concert choir, Concert and Marching Bands, Jazz Orchestra, and the Atlanta University Center-wide Symphony Orchestra.
•Bullet: The concentration connects applied performance and ensemble work to church repertoire, methods, and the traditions of African American worship music.
Degree Flexibility
•Bullet: All prospective Music majors complete university admission, music audition, interview, and theory/piano placement steps; the department then approves concentration progress.
•Bullet: Church Music students are approved after satisfactory academic progress through sophomore year and a recommendation from the concentration coordinator.
