Audition Process
•Bullet: This audition applies to prospective music majors and is also considered for music scholarships
•Bullet: The university catalog states that all prospective students who seek to enroll in a music degree program must perform a satisfactory audition on their primary instrument for a faculty jury
•Bullet: Students must first be admitted to Charleston Southern University
•Bullet: Complete the Music Audition Application to request an audition
•Bullet: After university admission, the Horton School of Music will request a brief video audition in the student's primary performance area
•Bullet: Confirmation email sent within 24-48 business hours
Audition Expectations
•Bullet: Wind and string applicants perform the major scales; harp applicants perform scales
•Bullet: Percussion applicants: all major scales are required on mallet instruments only
•Bullet: Guitar applicants prepare these two-octave scales: C-Major, G-Major, A-Minor, D-Major, A-Major, A-Minor pentatonic, and E-Minor pentatonic
•Bullet: Wind, string, and harp applicants complete a short sight-reading
•Bullet: Percussion sight-reading may be on snare drum, timpani, and/or keyboard percussion
•Bullet: Guitar applicants should demonstrate working knowledge of major and minor chord forms
Post-Enrollment
•Bullet: Incoming music students complete the Musicianship Skills Entrance Assessment during summer Preregistration
•Bullet: Assessment has two parts: written theory skills and aural/sight-singing skills
