Pre-screen audition video on your primary instrument or voice, following the second-column requirements in the instrument-specific PDFs (e.g., piano: two of the listed works from memory; strings: two contrasting pieces such as a Bach movement or standard concerto movement; guitar: two contrasting etudes from memory)

Essay/Statement

Research paper or scholarly essay (may be from a previous institution and in any subject area)

Goal statement (500 words max): what you hope to accomplish personally and professionally and how this major and Chapman's programs will help you get there

Application Logistics

No Acceptd or SlideRoom portal is used for Chapman music applicants — all materials upload through the Chapman Application Status Page

Admitted students perform a placement audition at the beginning of the academic year to determine private-lesson placement — it does not affect admission

First-year Early Action/Early Decision: November 1, 2026

First-year Regular Decision: January 15, 2027

Transfer: February 15, 2027

Use the Common App deadline for your chosen admission plan. Early Action or Early Decision is not required for Creative Supplement access; Regular Decision applicants also gain access after submitting the Common App.

Early Action is nonbinding. Early Decision I and II are binding admission options.

What's The Process

Prescreen

Submit the Common Application first and select your intended music major

Application Status Page access usually arrives within 48 hours

Upload the Creative Supplement and pre-screen audition video through the Application Status Page

Live Audition

Select applicants are invited to a live audition session

The live audition may be in person or virtual

The session includes an introductory session, an interview with the music program director, and the audition

Live audition repertoire is the same as the pre-screen video requirements

Scholarship Info

Chapman Celebrates Music Scholarship

All music applicants are considered for scholarship during the audition with no separate application required

Hall-Musco Conservatory scholarships are available for up to eight semesters for first-year students
