Songs

Music Audition

•Demonstrate proficiency in voice and either piano or guitar

•Choose a primary and a secondary instrument; voice may be either one

•Perform two contrasting selections on the primary instrument and one short selection on the secondary instrument

•Complete sight-reading on the primary instrument and chord-chart reading

Voice (If Primary)

•Perform two memorized contrasting selections such as a hymn, classical art song, Broadway, CCM, gospel, or contemporary worship song

•Sight-read a melodic line a cappella and sing back pitches for tonal memory

Accompaniment

•You may accompany yourself, use a backing track, or bring/request an accompanist

Additional Materials

Essay

•Required: 2-3 typed double-spaced pages (about 500-750 words)

•Address why you want to study worship, why Cedarville, your career goals, and your ministry experience

•Upload with the worship audition application

Letters of Recommendation

•Required: two recommenders who can assess your musical ability, ministry experience, and spiritual maturity (e.g., pastor, worship leader, youth pastor, or music teacher)

What's The Process

Audition Process

•Submit the online audition application at least two weeks before the desired date

•Weekday dates may be arranged by permission of the music office

•Applicants living 300+ miles from campus may submit a recorded audition

•Recordings should not be edited or spliced; send video links to musicandworship@cedarville.edu

Audition Expectations

•Four components are required before admission: essay, personal interview, music audition, and two recommendations

•The music audition covers voice plus piano or guitar, with two primary selections and a short secondary selection

•The personal interview may be part of the on-campus audition and covers the essay and ministry goals
