Audition Process
•Bullet: No incoming first-year entrance audition required
•Bullet: Students are accepted as provisional music majors for the first year
•Bullet: At the end of the first year, music majors audition for faculty to attain full music major status
•Bullet: At the end of the sophomore year, music faculty meet with each student to discuss career goals and progress
•Bullet: Optional performance specialization requires a special audition and adds applied lesson, musicianship, music theory, and junior/senior recital work
•Bullet: Music scholarship application opens September 1, 2026; deadline January 11, 2027
•Bullet: In-person scholarship audition on February 13, 2027 at Shattuck Music Center
•Bullet: Virtual auditions available by request for instrumentalists only
•Bullet: 15-minute audition; arrive at least 30 minutes early
•Bullet: Vocalists: prepare two solo pieces - one classical aria or art song and one contrasting style; major and minor scales, preferably solfege
•Bullet: Winds and strings: two contrasting works and possible major or minor scales
•Bullet: Percussion: two contrasting pieces or etudes on different percussion instruments
•Bullet: Piano or organ: two contrasting pieces; possible sight-reading
•Bullet: Guitar: two contrasting pieces; possible sight-reading
•Bullet: Vocalists receive an accompanist and should send PDF scores to jcawley@carrollu.edu before audition day
•Bullet: Instrumental auditions do not require piano accompaniment; Carroll does not provide accompanists for instrumentalists
