Audition Process
•No incoming first-year entrance audition required
•Students are accepted as provisional music majors for the first year
•At the end of the first year, music majors audition for faculty to attain full music major status
•At the end of the sophomore year, music faculty meet with each student to discuss career goals and progress
•Optional performance specialization requires a special audition and adds applied lesson, musicianship, music theory, and junior/senior recital work
•Music scholarship application opens September 1, 2026; deadline January 11, 2027
•In-person scholarship audition on February 13, 2027 at Shattuck Music Center
•Virtual auditions available by request for instrumentalists only
•15-minute audition; arrive at least 30 minutes early
•Vocalists: prepare two solo pieces - one classical aria or art song and one contrasting style; major and minor scales, preferably solfege
•Winds and strings: two contrasting works and possible major or minor scales
•Percussion: two contrasting pieces or etudes on different percussion instruments
•Piano or organ: two contrasting pieces; possible sight-reading
•Guitar: two contrasting pieces; possible sight-reading
•Vocalists receive an accompanist and should send PDF scores to jcawley@carrollu.edu before audition day
•Instrumental auditions do not require piano accompaniment; Carroll does not provide accompanists for instrumentalists
