Repertoire
•Audition on your principal jazz instrument; specific requirements vary by instrument
•Jazz bass: walking bass over a 12-bar blues in B-flat or F; two contrasting selections from "Misty," "Autumn Leaves," "A-Train," "Don't Get Around Much Anymore," "Satin Doll," or "Gone With The Wind" (melody, bass line, optional improvisation), plus one selection of your choice
•Jazz piano: a prepared melody and accompaniment for two contrasting popular/jazz selections; realize popular/jazz chord progressions at sight; demonstrate improvisation
•Jazz winds and brass (saxophone, trumpet, trombone, etc.): two contrasting selections (medium swing, ballad, straight-eighth, be-bop, etc.) with improvisation; a play-along track is recommended
•Percussion and drumset: demonstrate basic styles (swing, Latin, rock, funk) with fills and short improvisations
Scales & Technique
•Scales and technical requirements as specified for your instrument (e.g. jazz bass: one-octave major scales in all keys and a two-octave chromatic scale)
•Sight-reading is included as part of the audition
