Audition Requirements

These requirements are from the Fall 2026 entry cycle. Fall 2027 requirements are typically posted between August and October and usually change only slightly — confirm on the official source before submitting.

Repertoire List (Required)

Prepare audition repertoire on your primary instrument or voice

Use the repertoire requirements for the appropriate area: Voice, Strings, Woodwinds, Brass, Piano, Percussion, or Guitar

Two contrasting pieces from the standard solo literature of your instrument, or two contrasting songs for voice

Scales & Technique

Scales and sight-reading appropriate to your instrument may be requested during the live audition

Two-step process: (1) audition for the School of Performing Arts, (2) apply to the university

Submit audition via the SoPA Audition Form

Apply to CBU through the online application

Scholarship

Audition is used for performing arts scholarship consideration

Assessments

Admitted music majors take a music theory and aural-skills placement exam at orientation — for course placement only, not admission

Enrollment

Subject to yearly review by performing arts faculty to determine continuation in the program

Audition Format

• Three audition methods available

Schedule an in-person audition with a SoPA faculty member

Attend the annual Audition Day in February

Submit a video audition

Additional Assessment

Sight-reading and/or scales may be requested during live auditions

Video Submissions

Upload video to a file-sharing service (Dropbox, Google Drive, iCloud) or YouTube

Submit link via the SoPA Audition Form

Use a non-distracting background and natural lighting

Camera at eye level with entire body in frame; hand position visible if playing an instrument

Audio editing is not permitted; video clipping is allowed
