Audition Requirements

These requirements are from the Fall 2026 entry cycle. Fall 2027 requirements are typically posted between August and October and usually change only slightly — confirm on the official source before submitting.

Songs

Requirements

Two contrasting pieces from musical theatre repertoire

Each piece should be 32 bars

Choose one contrast: one Golden Age and one contemporary; one up-tempo and one ballad; or another meaningful contrast in style, tempo, or comic versus dramatic character

Select music that showcases vocal range and abilities

Monologues

Requirements

Two Contrasting monologues, 3 min total

From theatrical literature

Choose one of two options:

Option A: One dramatic and one comedic, each from any time period

Option B: One classical and one contemporary, each from any genre

Additional Materials

Resume (Required)

Attach a brief resume with your submission

Headshot (Required)

Include a recent headshot with the audition submission

Sheet Music (Required for in-Person Audition)

Provide sheet music for the accompanist; recorded auditions may use pre-recorded accompaniment

• Three audition methods available

Schedule an in-person audition with a SoPA faculty member

Attend the annual Audition Day in February

Submit a video audition

Slate

Begin your audition by stating your name and the titles of pieces you will perform

Video Submissions

Upload video to a file-sharing service (Dropbox, Google Drive, iCloud) or YouTube

Submit link via the SoPA Audition Form

Use a non-distracting background and natural lighting

Camera at eye level with entire body in frame

Audio editing is not permitted; video clipping is allowed
