Vapa Scholarship

The published Fall 2026 VAPA deadline of January 23, 2026 has passed

University admission application must be complete by January 23 for VAPA consideration

Late VAPA applications may be considered case by case by virtual audition or portfolio only

VAPA scholarships in Music are available to all Cal Lutheran students; the largest awards require a Music major

Fall enrollment only for VAPA applicants

Students offered multiple VAPA scholarships or major university scholarships must choose one award

What's The Process

Admission

No audition required for admission to the BA Music major; apply through the university application

Students accepted to Cal Lutheran may declare the Music major and choose an emphasis area

Vapa Scholarship

Optional VAPA audition is available for incoming first-year and transfer applicants seeking music scholarship consideration

Applicants may audition in person or upload videos in place of a live audition

Students within 100 miles of campus are strongly encouraged to audition in person for the largest scholarships

The Music Department may request a follow-up interview via Zoom

Accompanists are provided as needed for in-person auditions; recorded backing tracks are not allowed except for Mariachi auditions

Winter Music audition day: February 22, 2026

Vapa Performance Areas

Winds/Percussion: chromatic scale where applicable, one major scale, and a solo or etude

Strings: two contrasting works of any length

Vocal: two memorized contrasting classical pieces; one musical theater piece may be substituted

Piano/Organ: chromatic and major scale plus a standard classical solo work

Mariachi: two contrasting songs from Mariachi genres

The published Fall 2026 VAPA cycle is closed; late applications are considered case by case by virtual audition or portfolio only

Scholarship Info

Vapa Scholarship

Visual and Performing Arts Scholarship - up to full tuition

Available to incoming first-year and transfer applicants

Optional audition or area-specific submission for Music scholarship consideration

Scholarship recipients must perform in at least one major ensemble related to the audition area

Some scholarships require enrolling in a 1-credit private lesson each semester

Available to all Cal Lutheran students regardless of major; largest scholarships require a Music major
