Audition Expectations
•Bullet: Jazz Studies applicants complete both a classical audition (on the standard instrument-family requirements) and a jazz audition
•Bullet: Jazz audition: memorization of melodies and chord changes required; a medium-tempo blues (from Sandu, Billie’s Bounce, Now’s the Time, Tenor Madness, or Blue Monk); a jazz standard (from a published list); a ballad; scale requirements vary by instrument
•Bullet: Vocal Jazz applicants do not need a pre-screening video — the pre-screening is not required for vocal Jazz
•Bullet: Accompanied by a Jamey Aebersold play-a-long track or a live rhythm section when available; virtual auditions use a self-provided backing track (iReal Pro, Band in a Box, or Jamey Aebersold)
•Bullet: Keyboard placement assessment and a musicianship placement exercise on audition day — for course placement only, not part of the admission decision
