Scholarship Audition Requirements

Optional audition for scholarship consideration only; it is not required for program admission.

Letters of Recommendation

Recommendation letter from a high school music instructor or private teacher is due by the audition; phone calls are accepted for instrumental applicants

Repertoire List

Instrumental repertoire: prepare the published requirements for the applicant's performance group

Keyboard/piano repertoire: prepare two contrasting selections and be ready to sight-read three- or four-part staff reading

Vocal repertoire: prepare short segments of two contrasting songs

Vocal applicants also prepare one a cappella patriotic selection: "The Star-Spangled Banner" or "My Country, 'Tis of Thee"

What's The Process

Audition Process

No audition is required for admission to the Music Education associate degree

Students apply to Butler Community College and enroll through the normal advising process

Music and Dance scholarships may require an instrumental, keyboard/piano, or vocal music audition depending on the student's primary area

Instrumental applicants may audition in person or submit a virtual audition; in-person auditions receive priority

Vocal scholarship auditions are held in person when available

Vocal applicants participate in a short dance routine during the scholarship audition

Instrumental and Vocal Music scholarship auditions are scheduled through the published 2026-2027 audition calendar (see the AA Music program for exact dates); Keyboard/Piano auditions remain available by appointment

Open to students in any major, including Music Education

Eligible applicants must have earned at least a 2.0 GPA in their most recent full-time semester
