Training
•The Music minor builds a foundation in theory and history while leaving room for focused electives in areas such as electronic music, composition and additional historical study
•Its academic core gives students a vocabulary for harmony, form, style and musical context that can support performance, production or another primary major
Performance & Productions
•Two semesters of ensemble participation or private lessons keep the minor connected to active music-making
•Students can draw from Symphony Orchestra, Choir, Concert Band, Jazz Ensemble, Percussion Ensemble and smaller chamber groups, subject to the placement or audition appropriate to the activity
Facilities
•More than 150 free department events each year, the Slee/Beethoven String Quartet Cycle, Slee Sinfonietta and visiting artists place coursework in a continuing concert culture
•Baird Hall provides practice, rehearsal and recital rooms, while the recording spaces support electronic and multimedia exploration
