Training
•Weekly one-to-one study with Sungmin Shin spans classical, acoustic and electric guitar; Shin also directs the UB Guitar Ensemble
•The area’s audition preparation centers on two or three contrasting works, with major and minor scales and arpeggios recommended as technical foundations
Performance & Productions
•Guitarists can rehearse in the dedicated Guitar Ensemble and receive chamber coaching in small groups, complementing solo study and the MusB senior recital
•Performance majors attend six concerts each semester and take part in a department that presents more than 150 free events annually
Facilities
•Baird Hall provides practice rooms and recital space, while Lippes Concert Hall and the department’s recording rooms support acoustic performance, capture and review
