Training
•The three-year, 60-credit MFA combines eight sequential playwriting workshops with sixteen credits of dramatic or other literature, creative-process work in play production, electives, and directed study toward a thesis play
•The program joins Graduate School of Arts & Sciences literary scholarship with School of Theatre strengths in acting, directing, design, production, and theatre management
Performance & Productions
•Students take part in an annual professional season of new work and culminate the degree with a production of the thesis play at Boston Playwrights' Theatre
Professional Development
•The BU New Play Initiative connects writers with actors, directors, and designers; the degree may also include a theatre internship
Degree Flexibility
•The foreign-language ability requirement may be fulfilled while enrolled, and teaching fellowships through the English department support academic as well as professional preparation
