Training
•Conservatory-style lighting design training treats the theatre as a studio, linking classroom study directly to planning, hanging, programming, cueing, and executing designs in production
•Students analyze text, music, movement, and visual design while learning to use light for mood, visibility, composition, environment, and a unified production vocabulary
•Technical study includes geometry, physics, color, electrical theory, software, hardware, organizational paperwork, leadership, communication, and collaborative practice
•Average classes of 5–8 students provide close contact with faculty and access to an advanced contemporary lighting toolkit
Performance & Productions
•Lighting majors work across the complete production process and develop a personal artistic voice through repeated design and production assignments
•Mentored production work, internships, and the School of Theatre's Boston/New York Showcase help students prepare portfolios and relationships for professional practice
•Students begin in the shared Design, Production & Management Core and declare Lighting Design after the first year with faculty review and mentoring
