Audition Process
•In-person auditions on scheduled dates or video audition accepted
•Complete the Audition Form and submit it with your video or before your in-person audition
•Video auditioners upload performance video to YouTube, set it to "unlisted", and include the URL in the audition form
Audition Expectations
•Auditioners may provide their own accompanist
•If using the departmental accompanist, submit music at least two weeks before the audition date
•Instrumentalists: major scales up to four sharps and flats, chromatic scale for two octaves, and/or technical studies as appropriate for instrument
•Instrumentalists: 3- to 5-minute prepared solo, preferably with accompaniment, plus a second contrasting selection
•Vocalists: unaccompanied major scale on a neutral syllable, an art song or aria, and a second contrasting selection
•Percussionists: mallet scales/technical studies, prepared solo or etude on snare drum, timpani, keyboard percussion, or drum set, and a second alternate-instrument selection
•Drum set applicants demonstrate moderate swing, bossa nova, ballad, funk, and a four-bar fill
•Percussion applicants audition in at least 2 of the 4 percussion disciplines
Decisions
•Within 10 days of the audition, candidates will be notified
•Outcomes: accepted, conditionally accepted, or not accepted
•Conditionally accepted students may re-audition on another scheduled date
•Students not accepted may audition once more or select music as a minor
