Audition Form

Submit the online Audition Form via the BSU Music Department website

Form must be received prior to the audition

Eligibility

Formal audition required for all music major programs

No audition required for music minor

Transfer Pathway

CC2BSU participants who complete an associate degree at Bristol or Massasoit receive guaranteed admission and enter BSU as juniors. General BA Music transfer students must also complete the music audition, and at least half of the major coursework must be completed at BSU.

What's The Process

Audition Format

In-person auditions on scheduled dates or video audition accepted

Complete the Audition Form and submit before your audition

Auditioners may provide their own accompanist

If using the departmental accompanist, submit music at least two weeks in advance

Instrumentalists

Major scales (ascending and descending, up to four sharps and flats) and chromatic scale (two octaves)

A 3-5 minute prepared solo, preferably with accompaniment

A second selection in a contrasting style

Vocalists

An unaccompanied major scale on a neutral syllable

An art song or aria

A second selection in a contrasting style

Percussionists

Major scales on mallets (two octaves, up to four sharps and flats)

A prepared solo or etude on Snare Drum, Timpani, Keyboard Percussion, or Drum Set

A second selection on an alternate instrument

Must audition in at least 2 of 4 percussion disciplines

Video Audition

Upload performance to YouTube (set to "unlisted") and include URL in audition form

Notification

Within 10 days of audition, candidates notified of status

Outcomes: accepted, conditionally accepted, or not accepted
