Audition Requirements

These requirements are from the Fall 2026 entry cycle. Fall 2027 requirements are typically posted between August and October and usually change only slightly — confirm on the official source before submitting.

Songs

Singers

Prepare two contrasting selections that show your voice at its best

Selections may include art songs, arias, folk songs, or pop/jazz tunes

Accompaniment

An accompanist is provided at the audition

You may use an accompaniment track or bring your own pianist if preferred

Additional Materials

Repertoire

Instrumentalists prepare two contrasting solos, such as a single movement or etude, with or without accompaniment

Scales & Technique

Instrumentalists should also be prepared to play scales

Application Process

Complete the university application via Common App or the school website

Submit the Music, Theatre, and Musical Theatre Audition Application on the Brevard website

Theory & Placement

Incoming music students take theory, aural-skills, and/or piano placement just before fall classes

Placement is for course level only and has no bearing on admission to the Music program

What's The Process

Music Audition

All students wishing to major in music audition for the Music faculty before entering Brevard

Auditions take place at Scholarship Competition events; alternative audition dates may be arranged by request

Perform prepared repertoire and have a conversation with faculty about your goals and Brevard's program offerings

Audition time and location are sent during the week before the audition

Results

Audition results are mailed within one week

Scholarship notifications are mailed separately once Admissions and Financial Aid items are complete
