The 122-credit BM Percussion Performance degree develops snare drum, mallet, timpani, orchestral, and ensemble musicianship through applied lessons, theory, rhythm, ear training, score reading, and performance seminar

Students may study with one general percussion teacher or divide lessons among two, three, or all four studio teachers

The curriculum includes eight instrumental-ensemble credits, six percussion-ensemble credits, and two degree recitals

Percussionists work in symphonic orchestras, chamber groups, student-produced collaborations, and pit orchestras for dance, opera, and theater

Audition Requirements

Repertoire List

Snare drum: one concert etude and one rudimental solo, about four minutes total

Mallets: one two-mallet solo and one four-mallet solo, at least four minutes total

Timpani: one solo or orchestral-style etude, about three minutes

Repertoire must demonstrate proficiency in all three areas

Perform without accompaniment

Letters of Recommendation (Required)

List at least one recommender in the SlideRoom supplemental application

Application Logistics

Submit the Boston Conservatory online application before accessing SlideRoom

SlideRoom instructions are emailed after the Conservatory application is submitted

Early Action: submit the Conservatory application by November 1

Regular Action: submit the Conservatory application by December 1

Complete the required SlideRoom supplemental application after receiving emailed access

All music applicants list at least one recommender in the SlideRoom supplemental application

All undergraduate applicants complete a recorded online interview in addition to the artistic review

Eligibility

Fall enrollment only

A separate complete application and audition are required for each Conservatory program

Students may enroll in only one Conservatory program and may not pursue a double major

Transfer Pathway

BM Percussion Performance transfer applicants receive placement through the admission audition, transcript review, proficiency results, and first-semester jury; most transfers finish in two to three years.
