The 122-credit BM Harp Performance degree combines weekly private instruction with harp pedagogy, orchestral excerpts, performance seminar, theory, history, harmonization, improvisation, and sight-reading

Students complete six instrumental-ensemble credits, six chamber-music credits, and two degree recitals

Upper-level electives at the Conservatory and Berklee include career skills, Alexander Technique, arts journalism, and nonverbal communication

Performance & Productions

Harpists perform as soloists and ensemble musicians at the Conservatory and with Greater Boston groups

Students may participate in GentleMUSES, a partnership with Massachusetts General Hospital that brings therapeutic harp performance to the Cancer Center and pediatric and neonatal intensive-care units

Prepare two contrasting works or movements from two different periods

Prepare one personally meaningful work from any genre or cultural background, five minutes maximum

Prepare one orchestral excerpt

Application Logistics

Submit the Boston Conservatory online application before accessing SlideRoom

SlideRoom instructions are emailed after the Conservatory application is submitted

Early Action: submit the Conservatory application by November 1

Regular Action: submit the Conservatory application by December 1

Complete the required SlideRoom supplemental application after receiving emailed access

All music applicants list at least one recommender in the SlideRoom supplemental application

All undergraduate applicants complete a recorded online interview in addition to the artistic review

Eligibility

Fall enrollment only

A separate complete application and audition are required for each Conservatory program

Students may enroll in only one Conservatory program and may not pursue a double major

Transfer Pathway

BM Harp Performance transfer applicants receive placement through the admission audition, transcript review, proficiency results, and first-semester jury; most transfers finish in two to three years.
