Application Logistics

Apply to Boise State University through the admissions portal

Schedule your audition using the Department of Music audition request form

Video submission deadlines: February 15 (Zoom February 20), March 1 (Zoom March 6), March 29 (Zoom April 3)

Admission Pathway

Admitted students take the Music Literacy Predictive Exam (MLPE) for course placement only — it does not affect admission

Important Notes

Prepares students to teach vocal, instrumental, and general music in K-12 classrooms

Music education majors complete a music education interview around the fourth semester as part of admission to the teacher-certification track — this is a post-enrollment program gate, not part of the entrance audition

A separate certification-only track exists for those who already hold a music degree

What's The Process

Audition Expectations

Two-step admission: apply to Boise State, then audition for the Department of Music

Perform a live audition on your principal instrument or voice — prepare the published repertoire for your area (woodwinds, brass, percussion, strings, piano, or vocal)

Auditions held on campus in the Morrison Center, or by video submission with a follow-up Zoom meeting with area faculty

On-campus Audition Days include a welcome event, the Music Literacy Predictive Exam (MLPE), audition, and a campus tour

Video option: submit a recording, then meet area faculty over Zoom
