Self-Tape Video Audition (Two Parts, One Video)

Please keep each section within the time limit shown below

Part 1: Introduction (Maximum 90 Seconds)

Tell us briefly about yourself and your training or performance experience

We want to get a sense of who you are, so please also choose one of the following:

Tell us a joke; or

Tell us about your professional goal and how you think training at BIRD will help you get there

Part 2: Dance Material

Please submit two contrasting dance solos, each a maximum of 60 seconds

Choose your two solos from ballet, jazz, contemporary, commercial or hip hop

You may select any two of these styles

Attire

Please wear clothing that allows the panel to see your movement clearly

Tight-fitting clothing is preferred for all dance sections

Video Specifications

Recording

Record in a clear, well-lit space with good sound

For dance sections, make sure your full body remains visible throughout

Prescreen Notes

Stage 1 is a self-tape video audition, designed to give the panel a quick sense of you as a performer and as a person

Submit one self-tape link with your application, following the Video Audition Guidelines for BA (Hons) Professional Dance and Performance

If you apply for two programmes, submit one video link that includes the required sections for both programmes without duplicating sections that are the same

Within four weeks of receiving your application and self-tape, BIRD will let you know whether you have been invited to a live audition

Application Logistics

Applications for September 2027 entry will open in mid-October 2026; register your interest to be notified when the application portal opens

Complete BIRD's online application when applications open and submit one self-tape link with it

A separate UCAS application is also required; submit it under University of Greenwich

You can ask to be considered for up to two of BIRD's three performing arts degree programmes within the same application and one application fee

Audition Intensive: Thursday 29 October 2026, 9:30am-5:00pm at BIRD Conservatoire, Sidcup (ages 15+, £75); applications for the Intensive close at midnight on Thursday 22 October

Everyone attending the Audition Intensive receives an audition fee waiver for September 2027 entry

Eligibility

A minimum of 96 UCAS Tariff points, or an accepted equivalent UK or international qualification

GCSE Mathematics at grade 4/C or above, or equivalent

GCSE English Language or English Literature at grade 4/C or above, or equivalent

Applicants must be aged 18 by the end of the first term of study

Applicants who do not meet the standard academic requirements may still be considered where they can demonstrate relevant experience and/or alternative qualifications; academic entry requirements may be waived at BIRD's discretion following individual assessment

Applicants for whom English is not a first language: an overall IELTS score of 6.5 or above is required

Important Notes

The Conservatoire's Extra-Curricular Fund (ECF) applies and is spread over your three years of study; it covers headshots/publicity photos, in-house theatre tickets, lockers and entry systems

UK and international tuition fees for 2027/28 are to be confirmed

BIRD Conservatoire is an approved UKVI Sponsor and can sponsor international students via the Student Visa route

Transfer Pathway

The validating university accepts applicants who have completed one or two years of a relevant Level 4 or 5 course, and UCAS publishes Year 1, Year 2, and Year 3 entry points for the BA (Hons) Professional Dance and Performance. Transfer applicants still complete Bird's video and live audition process.

What's The Process

Audition Process

Stage 2 is a live audition at BIRD Conservatoire in Sidcup for applicants who are successful at Stage 1

Live audition dates and full preparation information will be published on the Applications page

Applicants invited to the second stage will receive full information about their live audition separately

BIRD's audition policy provides an alternative to in-person auditions for applicants who are not able to travel to the College (for example international students)
