Audition Requirements

These requirements are from the Fall 2026 entry cycle. Fall 2027 requirements are typically posted between August and October and usually change only slightly — confirm on the official source before submitting.

Songs

Original Song

Prepare one original song to perform on the day

You may accompany yourself with a live instrument or backing track

If using a backing track, you should have been involved in the production process

Bring the backing track on a suitable device

Additional Materials

Video

Bring an original songwriting demo recording; it should be different from the live audition song

Demo recording may be a home demo created in a DAW or a live demo recorded and arranged in a studio

Bring the demo on USB/mobile device or email a SoundCloud, YouTube, Spotify, or similar link ahead of the audition

Application Logistics

Apply through UCAS using course code 3C45 and BIMM institution code B39

Applicants may complete the BIMM audition, interview, or portfolio review before submitting UCAS; BIMM also sends assessment instructions after receiving the application

International applicants may apply directly through BIMM or through UCAS

Available at London, Brighton, Bristol, Birmingham, Manchester, and Berlin

Transfer Pathway

Applicants with prior higher-education study may be eligible for direct Level 5 entry through Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL).

What's The Process

Assessment Format

Assessment is 1-1 with a BIMM assessor and lasts around 40 minutes

Applicants may attend in person at a BIMM campus or online on Zoom

Zoom applicants receive the joining link on the day of the audition

Applicants can ask questions about the course during the session

Audition Expectations

Performance and demo are assessed for melody, structure, harmony, and lyrics

Be ready to discuss your music, lyrics, and composition process

Remote Demo Option

BIMM offers a remote demo submission route for undergraduate performance, songwriting, and music production courses

Remote submissions are marked by a BIMM assessor with feedback or an outcome by email
