Audition Process
•Admission to Berea College is through the standard university application
•No audition, portfolio, or interview required for initial enrollment
•Required for formal admission to the Theatre major
•Students must first complete THR 105 (Script Analysis) and THR 124 (Visual Concepts) with a grade of C or higher
•Review held on Reading Day before final exams, typically in the first term of sophomore year
•Faculty approve and sign Admission to Major forms (normally spring of sophomore year or after 15 credit hours)
Audition Expectations
•Students must consult with faculty and staff on or before mid-term examinations
•Faculty feedback from Sophomore Review must be addressed during the Senior Theatre Project
Presentations by Emphasis
•Actors: two contrasting 60-second monologues and a self-selected rehearsed scene (5 minutes total)
•Directors: discussion of script analysis and production concept for a self-selected play with bibliography
•Dramaturgs: discussion of dramaturgical research for a self-selected play with bibliography
•Playwrights: writing sample and discussion of script analysis with bibliography
•Designers/Technicians: portfolio of designs from one area (scenery, lighting, costumes, etc.) focused on one self-selected play
•Stage Managers: portfolio of forms, schedules, and articles centered on a self-selected play or production
•Theatre Administrators: season of plays with rationale, themes, and promotion ideas
