Audition Requirements

Portfolio

•MIDI-realize the two Audition Scores Belmont provides at registration, using a MIDI controller and virtual instruments/soft-synths only (no audio tracks); submit an MP3 mixdown of each

•Produce two Original DAW productions (your own compositions or arrangements) in contrasting styles, 1.5–2 minutes each, built primarily from MIDI-programmed material — some live audio tracks are allowed on the originals; submit an MP3 mixdown of each

•Complete the Audition Questionnaire

Application Logistics

•Submit the Belmont University undergraduate application first, then register for the School of Music audition through BU4U

•University admission and School of Music admission are decided separately — the music audition does not affect general university admission

•The School of Music admissions decision letter is sent after the University admissions decision and the audition/video submission are both complete

What's The Process

Audition Process

•Apply to Belmont University first; after the university application is submitted, the School of Music emails instructions to register for an audition through the BU4U portal

•Choose an in-person audition date or a video audition submitted through Acceptd — the same faculty adjudicate both, and video is not penalized

•The School of Music does not prescreen any undergraduate program; the School of Music audition is the sole admission gate for the degree

•Music Technology applicants select Digital Audio Workstation (DAW) as their primary instrument; audition materials are emailed after registration

•Students are automatically considered for a School of Music talent-based scholarship at the time of audition

•Applicants must own legal copies of all software used for the audition

•Live auditions bring all mix-downs on a drive plus the printed questionnaire; Acceptd submissions add a 30-second video of MIDI recorded live via a controller
