Portfolio Requirements

Songs

Original Song Portfolio

Perform two original compositions in one video portfolio

Songs must be written solely by the applicant; co-written songs are not accepted

Songs must contain both lyrics and music

Any commercial genre is acceptable; Belmont prefers songs free of profanity, graphic imagery, or inappropriate content

Video Limit

Portfolio video must be no longer than 7 minutes

Include a brief introduction explaining why you want to join the Belmont Songwriting community

If another person accompanies you, introduce each song and all instrumentalists or performers on camera

Required: Upload the complete songwriting video portfolio to Acceptd

Include a brief introduction and two original songs

Portfolio

Songwriting portfolio requires two PDF lyric sheets, one for each original song

Questionnaire

Required: Answer three short-answer questions about your Belmont Songwriting fit, career goals, and musical inspirations

Audition Process

Portfolio rounds close September 1, November 1, January 15, and March 1

An April 15 round is open to first-time (first-year) applicants only

The July 1 round is for transfer students only

Submit by 11:59 p.m. Central on the applicable due date

Audition Expectations

Admission to the Songwriting major uses a video portfolio through Acceptd rather than a live audition

Faculty evaluate songwriting ability against Belmont's published portfolio requirements

Applicants admitted to Belmont typically receive the Songwriting decision within 30 days of the applicable due date
