Audition Process
•Applied Music (MUSC B7) is required for the Music Associate in Arts for Transfer and must be passed for 4 semesters
•Students enroll at Bakersfield College first, then audition for Applied Music
•The music pathway page says fall-start auditions usually occur twice, in mid-May and again in August just before the fall semester begins
•The auditions page still lists Saturday, February 28 for Fall 2026 entry, which is now past
•No future Applied Music audition dates or next-cycle dates are posted in the June 2026 source snapshot
Audition Expectations
•Voice: prepared aria or art song, sight-singing demonstration, and music theory placement exam
•Instrumental and jazz: prepared solo or etude, sight-reading demonstration, and music theory placement exam
•Jazz students also demonstrate improvisation on a 12-bar blues
•Staff accompanist available; submit accompaniment parts at least one week in advance
Post-Enrollment
•Admitted Applied Music students also enroll in an ensemble course and the appropriate music theory and ear-training course each semester
