No Admission Audition
•Admission to Austin College is through the regular university application
•The music scholarship audition is optional and does not require applicants to major or minor in music
Music Major Gateway
•Formal entry into the music major requires completion of MUS 220 Music Theory and Ear Training II, either MUS 240 or MUS 241 Music History, full completion of MUS 091 Junior-Level Exam, and recommendation of the music faculty
•Transfer students enter the major after transcript evaluation, a music faculty audition, and full completion of MUS 091, normally in the first semester at Austin College
Scholarship Audition
•Optional Music Scholarship auditions are offered on campus, with video submissions accepted for remote applicants
•Vocalists prepare two contrasting classical pieces in different languages; choral parts and Broadway songs are not appropriate
•Instrumentalists prepare two contrasting pieces such as etudes, sonatas, concertos, or stand-alone works; concert excerpts are not appropriate
•Music faculty speak with applicants after the audition about their college music plans
•Concert attire is expected for live and recorded auditions
•Live audition accompanist is provided at no cost when applicants provide parts at least one week before the audition
