Scholarship Audition Requirements

These requirements are from the Fall 2026 entry cycle. Fall 2027 requirements are typically posted between August and October and usually change only slightly — confirm on the official source before submitting.

Optional audition for scholarship consideration - not required for program admission.

Repertoire List

•Music majors prepare two contrasting works of music

•Piano majors should prepare a work by J. S. Bach if possible and one other work

•Vocal music majors should prepare one selection in a language other than English if possible

•Non-music majors prepare one piece of their choice

Essay

•Minimum 300-word essay on your interest in music and what you hope to achieve at Aurora University as a musician

•Submit via email or bring to audition

Letters of Recommendation

•One letter from someone who knows you as a musician

•Must comment on character, work ethic, team participation, and ability

•Submit via email or bring to audition

Sheet Music

•Email sheet music to music@aurora.edu at least two weeks before audition

•Digital images of sheet music not accepted

•Only needed if accompanist is requested

Admission

•No audition required for admission to the BA Music program

Scholarship Audition Dates

Scholarship Commitment

•Must participate in an AU ensemble each semester

•Four semesters of private lessons beginning freshman year

•Annual faculty evaluation each spring

What's The Process

Audition Process

•Optional audition and interview for Music Achievement Scholarship

•Not required for program admission

•Duration: approximately 15 minutes

Audition Expectations

•Perform prepared scholarship repertoire

•Vocalists may use classical, musical theater, aria, oratorio, or folk-song arrangements

•Memorization preferred for vocalists and pianists

•Brief coaching session with a music instructor

•Interview with faculty members

•Vocalists demonstrate range and sight reading

•Pianists and instrumentalists may be asked to play scales or arpeggios

•Accompanist available upon request via music@aurora.edu or the online application

•Sheet music must be emailed at least two weeks before audition

•Digital images of sheet music not accepted

•Dress professionally

•Auditions held in Parolini 119 (1:00-4:00 PM)

Scholarship Info

Award

•$500-$5,000 based on musical achievement, academic record, and dedication

•Open to students regardless of major or minor

Renewal

•Renewable for up to four years with 2.0 GPA

•Must participate in AU ensembles (University Chorale, AU Band, etc.)
