Good to Know

Application Logistics

University application via Common App

Audition submission via School of Music Scholarship Form

Eligibility

Scholarship consideration (Pro-Musica) may be tied to the admission audition

Scholarship eligibility does not guarantee admission to the BM

Students not accepted may pursue the BA in Music or other music pathways

Students may re-audition once if initially denied

Placement

Admitted students demonstrate keyboard proficiency via a placement exam before 3000-level lessons — for course placement only, not admission

New Degree

BM in Performance launches Fall 2026 (NASM-approved November 2025)

What's The Process

Audition Process

Admission to the BM in Performance requires a performance audition on the applicant's primary instrument as part of the School of Music application

In-person (held in February) or video submission accepted

Auditions are reviewed by a committee of applied faculty

Scholarship consideration, including Pro-Musica, may be tied to the audition, but scholarship eligibility does not guarantee BM admission

Current Augustana students may apply to transfer into the BM program after at least one semester (minimum 2.5 music GPA)

Internal transfer applicants audition before a faculty jury with two contrasting selections and a written statement of intent

Post-Enrollment Gateway

Admitted BM students must maintain a grade of B or higher in applied lessons (MUSL) to remain on the performance track

Continued progress in ensemble participation, coursework, and applied performance is evaluated annually by faculty

Students may re-audition once if initially denied entry to the BM in Performance
