Audition Process
•No audition required for admission to the Music Performance program
•Acceptance to the college allows you to pursue any major
•Optional scholarship audition is completed in person on a selected music audition date
•Applicants who cannot attend a listed date should request an alternate date as soon as possible
•Open to students of any major
Audition Expectations
•In-person auditions are 10-20 minutes
•Instrumentalists may bring their own accompanist, but most audition without accompaniment
•Auditioning with or without accompaniment has no impact on results
•Notification of audition time approximately two weeks before the audition date
Woodwinds
•Two contrasting movements or etudes that best demonstrate musicality, tone, time and technique
•No longer than 3-4 minutes each
Brass
•Two excerpts in contrasting styles and tempi
•Any combination of repertoire from standard solo and etude literature
•Full-range chromatic scale, plus a major and minor scale of your choice
•No longer than 3-4 minutes each
Strings
•Two excerpts in contrasting style: etudes or a movement from a sonata or concerto
•Three-octave major scale (violin, viola, cello); two-octave major scale (bass)
•About 8 minutes of music total
•Memorization and sight-reading are not required
Harp
•Two works from contrasting style periods (an etude may be substituted for one)
•About 8 minutes of music total
•Memorization and sight-reading are not required
Guitar
•One movement from a suite or sonata and one piece in a contrasting style
•An etude by Sor, Carcassi or Villa-Lobos may be used for one selection
•One piece originally written for guitar; the other may be a transcription
•Three-octave major scale
Percussion
•Two excerpts in contrasting styles on snare drum, timpani, and/or mallets (marimba, vibraphone or xylophone)
•Demonstrating two or more instruments is encouraged
•No longer than 10 minutes; memorization not required
