Audition Process
•Bullet: No audition required for admission to the Music Education program
•Bullet: Acceptance to the college allows you to pursue any major
•Bullet: Optional scholarship audition is completed in person on your principal instrument
•Bullet: Declared music-education majors meet with music-education faculty on their audition day
•Bullet: Open to students of any major
Audition Expectations
•Bullet: In-person auditions are 10-20 minutes
•Bullet: Instrumentalists may bring their own accompanist, but most audition without accompaniment
•Bullet: Notification of audition time approximately two weeks before the audition date
Repertoire (by Instrument Family)
•Bullet: Woodwinds: two contrasting movements or etudes, 3-4 minutes each
•Bullet: Brass: two contrasting excerpts plus full-range chromatic, major and minor scales, 3-4 minutes each
•Bullet: Strings: two contrasting excerpts plus a three-octave major scale (two-octave for bass), about 8 minutes total
•Bullet: Percussion: two contrasting excerpts on snare, timpani and/or mallets, up to 10 minutes
Teaching Interview
•Bullet: Indicate music-education interest on the application to be scheduled to meet music-education faculty on your audition day
