Audition Requirements

These requirements are from the Fall 2026 entry cycle. Fall 2027 requirements are typically posted between August and October and usually change only slightly — confirm on the official source before submitting.

Repertoire

•Brass, woodwind, and string applicants: two solo selections, or one solo and one etude of your choice

•Prepared selections should contrast in style (one lyrical and one technical)

•Percussion applicants: one marimba or xylophone solo or etude (two or four mallets), one solo or etude on four timpani, and one multiple-percussion or snare drum solo or etude

Scales & Technique

•Major scales (non-percussion areas)

Application Process

•Submit the Department of Music application via the department website

•Submit an audition video or attend an in-person audition on your principal instrument or voice

•Apply separately to Augusta University

Placement

•Admitted students take music theory and aural-skills placement diagnostics at orientation for course placement only, not admission

Licensure

•Graduates earn Georgia Teacher Certification for K-12 music

Transfer Pathway

Augusta evaluates prior coursework through its transfer equivalency guide. BM Music Education applicants must complete the Department of Music application and audition for the Instrumental concentration.

Audition Process

•Auditioning students are automatically considered for music scholarships

Audition Expectations

•Principal-instrument performance audition, in person on campus in February and March or by online video

•Sight-reading is included in the on-campus audition but omitted from online audition videos

•A staff accompanist is available for prepared repertoire
