Training
•Bullet: Required courses cover music performance, history, literature, theory and aural skills inside a liberal arts curriculum, with elective choices in performance, theory or history
•Bullet: The sequence runs Music Theory I-IV, Aural Skills I-IV, Class Piano I-IV, Music History I and II, and a Music History Seminar
•Bullet: Principal applied lessons run four semesters, followed by two further semesters that require a jury, and the degree requires either a 30-minute junior recital or a senior project
Performance & Productions
•Bullet: Majors take University Band or University Choir for four credit hours, and the department also supports the Symphonic Band, Marching Band, Jazz Orchestra, Chamber Singers, Opera Workshop and small ensembles such as flute choir and percussion ensemble
•Bullet: Ensembles tour regionally each year, with domestic and international trips that have reached Spain, Italy, Germany and Austria
Facilities
•Bullet: The Music Department is in the Center for the Arts, home to the Hugo Young Theatre for the Performing Arts and the Elizabeth Pastor Recital Hall, with classroom, rehearsal and private practice rooms
Degree Flexibility
•Bullet: The 120-credit BA pairs 48-50 hours in music, including an art or theater elective and six hours of music electives, with a 45-hour institutional core and a required outside minor
