Training
•AVC's Theatre Arts AA-T is production-oriented and combines academic study with practical work in live performances at the college's state-of-the-art space and Black Box Theatre.
•The multidisciplinary curriculum includes acting, directing, scenery, costuming, lighting, theatre history, script analysis, stagecraft, design, makeup, and performance or technical production.
•Course options include rehearsal and performance in drama, comedy, musical theatre, theatre for young audiences, and new works or small-venue performance.
Performance & Productions
•Theatre Arts productions are integrated into coursework and give students opportunities to collaborate in performance and production. The curriculum supports both rehearsal/performance courses and technical theatre production.
Professional Development
•The program supports career paths in live theatre, film, television, radio, video, computer games, public events, recreation, and arts and education programming.
Degree Flexibility
•The Associate in Arts in Theatre Arts for Transfer meets SB 1440 Associate Degree for Transfer requirements and is designed to provide lower-division major preparation for transfer to a four-year university. The 2025–26 catalog requires 60 degree-applicable semester units, at least 18 major units, Cal-GETC, a C or P in each major course, and a 2.0 GPA. AVC's transfer guidance says ADT graduates receive guaranteed admission with junior standing somewhere in the CSU system and priority consideration for a local CSU campus or similar program; it does not guarantee a specific campus or major.
