Training
•The Dance program develops technique, choreographic methods, dance theory, and performance through study of bodily alignment, form, strength, coordination, balance, control, agility, flexibility, and stamina.
•Current catalog coursework includes modern, ballet, jazz, tap, hip-hop, world dance, choreography, improvisation, ensemble, conditioning, dance history, and performance.
Performance & Productions
•Students build practical experience through Dance Ensemble, Dance Performance, choreography, and related theatre and music coursework. The program connects technique and theory to public performance and creative expression.
Professional Development
•The Dance program provides professional preparation for students pursuing dance careers as well as personal development through sustained technique, choreography, theory, and performance study.
Degree Flexibility
•The Associate in Arts in Dance is designed for students who plan to transfer to a four-year institution. The catalog states that transfer-focused students should be prepared for a university's supplemental application and audition, with additional transfer requirements available through General Counseling. AVC's Arts, Language & Communication, and Humanities offerings also give students a broad setting in which to connect dance with music, theatre, and the wider performing arts.
