Repertoire List
•Audition pieces are drawn from the current Texas UIL Prescribed Music List (PML); non-PML works may be approved by the audition chair in advance
•Piano repertoire: one memorized composition from the PML, any grade
•Strings repertoire (violin, viola, cello, double bass): two contrasting PML compositions, one from grade one and one from grade two or higher
•Woodwind repertoire: two grade one PML compositions in contrasting styles, or one grade one multi-movement work
•Brass repertoire: two grade one PML compositions in contrasting styles, or one grade one multi-movement work
•Percussion repertoire: one snare drum, one timpani, and one keyboard composition from grade one, plus drum set demonstrating basic rock, Latin, and swing feels
Scales & Technique
•Piano: white-key major scales, hands together, one octave, eighth-notes at quarter = 90
•Strings: a two- or three-octave scale of your choice with its major/minor arpeggios; double bass may use a one- or two-octave scale
•Woodwinds and brass: major and minor scales plus the chromatic scale
•Percussion: major scales on keyboard, two octaves, eighth-notes at quarter = 104
•Sight-read after scales; percussionists sight-read on snare drum, keyboard, and timpani
Accompaniment
•A staff accompanist is available at no charge, or you may bring your own; you only need to provide a copy of your music if you need the school accompanist
