TRAINING
•43-credit BA with three-pillar curriculum: Embodied Knowledge (technique, somatics), Critical Inquiry (kinesiology, history, technology, business), and Creative Practice (creative tools, seminars, capstone)
•Multiple levels in African dance, ballet, contemporary, jazz, tap, musical theatre styles, somatics (Pilates, yoga, LMA, Alexander technique), and urban forms (breaking, house, locking, popping, waacking)
•Technique courses capped at 18 students for individualized instruction
•Faculty have worked with Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater, Ballet Austin, Bill T. Jones, Capitol Tap, National Ballet Company of Peru, and Bring In Da Noise, Bring In Da Funk
•Recent guest artists include Charles O. Anderson, Tatiana Desardouin, Christopher Morgan, Zoe Scofield, and Rosy Simas
PERFORMANCE & PRODUCTIONS
•Performance opportunities every semester: CHOREOLAB (student choreographer workshop), Senior Dance Capstone, AU Dances, DANCEWORKS spring concert, and American College Dance Association Conference
•Open casting — all AU students may audition regardless of major
FACILITIES
•Primary studio in Katzen Arts Center with Harlequin fully sprung marley floor (installed 2016), portable barres, and projection
•Performances at the Harold and Sylvia Greenberg Theatre and Abrahamson Family Recital Hall
LOCATION
•D.C. metro area internship access: Kennedy Center, Dance Place, Joy of Motion, Washington Ballet, Dance Loft on 14, Dance Exchange, and Dance/USA national office
