Audition Requirements
Dance
SOLO PIECE, 60-90 sec
•In the style of your choice — must be choreographed and rehearsed
•Provide your own music via MP3 player (bring a backup copy)
•Solo should demonstrate your technical skill level
DANCE COMBINATION
•May be taught two contrasting combinations at the audition
•Styles may include: Classical Ballet, Modern, Tap, Jazz, Contemporary, or Broadway
WHAT TO AVOID
•Freestyle or improvised dance
•Overt sexual movements
•Costumes and props

ATTIRE
•Women: leotard and tights to show the natural line of the body
•Men: leotard or white T-shirt and tights or jazz pants
•Shoes: all types of dance shoes; rubberized soles and braced heels recommended for women
•Hair pulled back and away from face
•Remove all jewelry before auditioning

What's The Process
AUDITION FORMAT
•Live audition with an AMDA audition coach — campus, national, or virtual via Zoom
•Video audition option available for those unable to attend live
•Be prepared to articulate why you are auditioning for AMDA and your professional goals
IN THE AUDITION ROOM
•Introduce yourself to the adjudicator
•Audition begins from your entrance and continues until you exit
•Wait for adjudicator response before leaving the room
VIDEO AUDITION
•Request video submission form from your Admissions Advisor
•Record full body (head to toe) in the frame — no close-ups
•Slate: date, full name, city/country, program, and titles of pieces
